From the Science of the Environment to the Environmental Arts

This is a ten hour lecture for doctoral students, explaining how and why the science of ecology has attracted public attention to become transformed in the process into “deep ecology.” The lecture explores the impact upon American thinking of the environmental movement, introduces the key events, texts and individuals who contributed to shaping American environmental awareness, explains the principles of deep ecology, to finally demonstrate how environmental thinking has affected various arts – from literature and architecture to “sustainable art” and music.
